PLACES TO SEE AND THINGS TO DO - AROUND DUNDEE
There are numerous four wheel drive tracks starting only several kilometers from Sand Palms Roadhouse and Tavern. These tracks travel through native woodlands past beautiful lagoons and creeks, monsoonal vine forests, native flora and fauna and picturesque freshwater springs. You can see native wildlife from the comfort of your 4WD. Many species include Wallabies, Kangaroo, Emu, Goannas, Crocodiles, Jabirus, Brolgas and hundred of other native species of birds and lizards. Sights such as magnetic termite mounds and even larger giant termite mounds are not uncommon in the Dundee area.
Gold prospecting and fossicking is also popular in this area, the old gold mine, the “Golden Boulder' is situated west of the Charlotte Crossing. As local stories go large nuggets have been found at the head waters of the Laviathin Creek. Many other mineral specimens are found along the range of the Finniss River Valley, these include Tomolin, Tantalite and tin. Aboriginal spearpoints and many other turn of the century artifacts and war relics can also be found here. An abandoned tin mine called “The Annies Tin mine” is another place of interest situated approx 35 km East of the Sand Palms Roadhouse and Tavern and can be accessed via the Wangai Road or bush track from Hard Castle boat ramp which travels along the Finniss River Valley. There are so many things to Do and see around Dundee it makes the perfect venue for a Northern Territory Top End Outback holiday adventure.
